NAME: Ellamae Fullalove
PLATFORM & USERNAME: Insta – @vavawomb_
CENSORSHIP: Content Ban
What reason was given for your ban?
Why do you think your post(s) was censored?
I posted a photo of the side of my breast with a star covering the nipple that read “Can we normalise boobs and jeans being friends please” as my saggy boobs naturally brushed the top of my jeans.
Apparently I didn’t censor my nipple enough. The unfair Instagram rule censors nipples, but not all nipples, generally it’s targeted those that appear female especially those that have extra breast tissue attache.. Nipples should be genderless so that all nipples can be free no matter what is attached to them. Larger breasts/chests are rude in the eyes of Insta.
Were you able to appeal and what was the response?
I did appeal based on the fact the nipple was covered – but they refused it!
What effect has your experience of censorship had on you?
The anxiety of posting is intense.
As a woman born without a womb/vagina my page is a passion project – I want to normalise average bodies, break the stigma and spread self-acceptance but Instagram has other ideas.
Instagram once hid the hashtag “vagina” even though this body part is invisible! They’ve also censored vulva art which isn’t against guidelines. I like to play the game back and repost all removed posts slightly differently after removal, for example – adding a bigger star to my nip, or turning the censored post into a graphic!
What’s one thing you want people to know about this topic?
Your normal body is not offensive. You are enough. Your Instagram following and likes don’t determine the quality of your content when it’s controlled by such an unfair force of technology.
Nipples are just nipples… vagina is not a f*ing swear word…get over it society!
